13th January 2017

A very Happy New Year to you and a warm welcome to our first 3F Class Blog of 2017!smiley

A huge well done to everyone in our class for a super first week back after the Christmas holidays. Some of us have particularly impressed Mrs Bradley-Baker, Mrs Foster and Mrs Marron. Charlie has made an all round outstanding start to the term, so much so that he was awarded our Class Achievement Certificate this week. If he keeps it up he will make great progress this term…Go got it Charlie!smileynono

A special mention as always to our Super Readers who have read each day at home. Keep up the great work as reading is so important to learning and making progress. You are real SHINING STARS!smileynono

In Maths, we have been working on multiplication and started the week by revisiting the grid method. Have a look below how you do it. What do you think? Some of us are real whizzes at it!

After that, we progressed onto the next step of the ‘expanded column method’. Wow, some of us are really getting to grips with this!

Today we have been working on mental maths and made a really impressive start…Fantastic!no

In English we wrote a recount of our Christmas holidays using headings and sub-headings. Then we have been learning about information texts and started to look at newspapers and what the features of this type of text are. Today, we have read Goldilocks and The Three Bears and pretended to be journalists reporting on Goldilock’s vandalising the bear’s cottage! We have thought about everything that a journalist must include in a newspaper article.

In our Reciprocal Reading groups we have explored a book called 'Bones' in detail. We 'predicted' what each section would be about before reading it, 'clarified' any words we were unsure of, asked 'questions' to help us understand what we read and then 'summarised' the main ideas.

This week, we also started our new class novel 'Matilda' by Roald Dahl. It's so funny, we are all really enjoying listening and answering questions about it.no

Science this week has been revision of our ‘Rocks and Soils’ from last term, then a quiz to show just how much we have learnt…We were so impressive!

In topic, we have started ‘The Romans’ which we are really excited to learn about and have lots of questions that we would like to find the answer to. This week we learnt about the Roman invasion of Britian!

French is always great fun in our class. We have been learning about body parts and really impressed Mrs Bradley-Baker being able to sing ‘Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes’ in French!

This week some of us budding artists had a special treat as we worked with a real artist and other children from each class to create an amazingly, impressive piece of artwork. It is going to be displayed in school …watch this space for a photo!

Another super memorable moment this week was in assembly this morning, when we all enjoyed singing as a whole school led by Mr Price on his guitar … A huge thank you Mr Price from all of 3F, it really put a big smile on all of our faces. We look forward to doing the same again next week. smileynono

We hope you all have a great weekend doing things you love!

Take care,

From All in 3F smiley
