Friday 19th June

Friday 19th June

Welcome back to the Year 5W blog. It has been another busy week here at Westfield.

Maths - This week we have been converting fractions into their decimal equivalent. It’s really not as hard as you think. Did you know that ¼ is the same as 1 divided by 4? You can either use a calculator to work this out or put it into a bus stop. After working it out with your preferred method, hey presto, you arrive at the solution that 1 divided by 4 equals 0.25.

Have a go at home to see how good you are at converting fractions to decimals.

English – This week we have written about our trip to the ALPS last week as pilgrims. This work was so good that our teachers decided it needed to go on display! So look out for our amazing work if you pop into class.

Topic – We have been looking at Native American totem poles. They were carved to tell stories and legends from the different tribes as well as showing important events in their history. We have decorated and made totem poles of our own in class. On Thursday, we visited the ALPS to sketch and paint our local surroundings. Here are some pictures from the afternoon…

This week in Assembly our CERTIFICATE WINNER was Lewis for being our all round good guy – always does the right thing, always has a smile on his face. He is SO ready for Year 6 but we’d like to keep him please!

This week Billy has achieved his PLATINUM wristband. What a brilliant achievement. A massive well done for all his hard work on mastering ALL the multiplication and division facts and being able to apply them in maths.

Finally, enjoy the weekend and we will see you back in school on Monday.
