Friday 19th May

Hello and welcome to the Y5W blog.

Maths

The tricky job of drawing and measuring angles was the start of the maths lessons this week. We moved on to working out angles on a straight line; where we were shown two angles on a straight line (one with the degree measurement on) and we had to calculate the other. As you know angles on a straight line add up to 180° so it was all about subtraction.

English

Using the research and key features we learnt last week, we wrote and illustrated our information leaflets on ancient civilisations. After we had finished these, we had a myth and legend comprehension to complete.

We then looked at performance poem Perseus and the Gorgon’s head. After clarifying some unknown words we had to write a synopsis (a brief summary) before practicing and performing it on Monday next week.

Topic

Wow! There’s nothing like a trip to bring our learning to life! We had an absolute brilliant time at the art gallery and museum. Not only did we see varies paintings of Greek Gods and Greek Myths but statues too. In the art gallery we were shown a painting of a Greek myth and told the story behind it. We then had to write our own different ending to the myth. It was really fun. Mrs Dougherty, Mrs Cosgrove and Miss Walls were blown away by not only our excellent behaviour but our interest and knowledge. Well Done Tokens all round. As such we were able to view the dinosaur section at the museum before visiting the shop.

PE

This took place on Friday afternoon. It relates to our Greek topic and the story of Pandora’s Box. We are building up to a dance performance next week.

This Week’s Certificate Winner…

Is Adam: for stunning his teachers (and patrons of the museum) with his impressive knowledge of Ancient Greece. Well done.
