Friday 20th April 2018

Hello, and welcome back to the Year Four Blog...it's the place to be, don't you know.  We hope you had a lovely Easter break, and are enjoying the weather this week.

In English this week, we have begun to work on explanations.  So, in Reciprocal Reading we have been studying explanation texts.  On Monday, we looked at a text on how rainbows are formed.  Did you know -only one colour is formed in each raindrop as the sunlight passes through it?  So, some raindrops create the colour yellow, whilst others will create red or blue etc.  Amazing -and we thought it was all to do with unicorns and magic -it just goes to show.

Also in English, we have been looking at the Teacher Pleaser Machine.  This is an idea, not from our teachers, but from Pie Corbett -who you may remember from before Christmas.   He did Dragonory.

Take a look at the Teacher Pleaser Machine.

We have been busy writing an explanation into how the machine works.  Hopefully, we'll be able to share some of our work next week -sharing is caring.

Earlier in the week, we visited Wigan's Life Bus which has been with school all week.  It was great!  We looked at how we are all unique -even Jack and Cody (the twins in our class), and how we can stay healthy.  Our teachers were really impressed by our knowledge on the digestive system which we covered in Science earlier in the year.laugh  Take a look at some of the pictures.

In Maths, we have been busy rounding decimal numbers.  Boom! We got it.  It's quite simple really.  We rounded whole numbers earlier in the year, and the same rules apply.  What really helps is the Rounding Rap.  Take a look.

Rounding Rap

This is a great video for helping students learn to round.

Why not have a go at this online activity from Snappy Maths to see how well you can round decimals.  Click here

Well, that's all for now...join us next week to see how we're getting along.  Hope to see you then.
