Friday 23rd March

Friday 23rd March

Welcome to Y5F’s blog for the week! As usual, it has been another hectic week!

Maths – This week the children have continued investigating fractions. They have continued to investigate finding the lowest common multiple. This involved looking at two or three numbers and finding a multiple that they all had in common. For example…

Multiples of 2 are..

2 4 6 8 10 12 14 16 18 20 22 24 26 28 30 32 34 36 38 40

Multiples of 5 are…

5 10 15 20 25 30 35 40 45 50 55 60

Multiples of 8 are…

8 16 24 32 40 48 5 64 72 80 88 96

Therefore, the lowest common multiple would be 40 as this is a number that appears in all three times tables. The children moved onto comparing fractions with different denominators. They had to make the denominator the same. Here’s now to do it…

Take a look at this game with TV’s Dick and Dom which compares fractions…

English – This week the children have been looking at the features of biographical writing. They have picked out the important information about Hogarth Hughes (the main character from The Iron Man) and taken notes to help them write their own biography about him.

Science - The children have been learning about Sir Isaac Newton. He is credited with ‘discovering’ gravity. Also, he the Newton meter (or force meter) is named after him. This is a special device used for measuring the force of gravity placed upon an object.

This week the Book Fair has been in school and the children had the opportunity to visit and look at the huge selection of books available. They all chose two books to take a lok at and then write about.

Here is our CERTIFICATE WINNER for the week. He won for being such a helpful member of class – no job is too big or too small for him and is always completed with a smile. Thank you from all your teachers. A big well done from all of us in Year 5F.

Also, a reminder that school finishes next week on Thursday 29th March for the Easter holidays. At 9.15 on that final Thursday, the children will be forming their special Easter Assembly. They have been rehearsing brilliantly and are looking forward to performing in front of a live audience of family and friends.

Have a fabulous weekend and we will see you all again on Monday.
