Friday 6th June

Friday 6th June

Hello and welcome back to Year 5W’s blog. It has been a busy week back after the half term break.

Highlights from the week include…

Numeracy – This week we have continued revising in anticipation of our SATS which will be coming up next week. We have been looking at symmetry, number lines, interpreting graphs, rounding to the nearest whole number, 10, 100 or 1000, and perimeter of shapes. Also, we have been multiplying a 2 digit number by another 2 digit number, either using a column or the grid method. As well as that, we have been looking at quick mental methods to answer mental maths questions. As you can see, we have been EXTREMELY busy!

Literacy – This week we have been mostly concentrating on writing. We have been writing comparisons…that means what’s not the same. We looked at a field in winter and summer and wrote about it. Then we wrote about a tree in winter and summer using personification. We wrote as if we were the tree. Finally, we wrote about a beach in winter and summer. We used a variety of our SUPER SENTENCES in our writing.

CFL – This week we have continued thinking about rivers. We wrote about being a river. How when we were young, high up in the mountains, we were clean, healthy, fast-moving and full of life. However, as we moved further down we aged, became less energetic, pollution had started to poison us and our life was coming to an end as we slowly entered the sea.

On Tuesday, a duo of musicians came into school to perform for us. Amazingly, they were dressed as Tudors and played musical instruments from that time! Some of the children were lucky enough to be chosen to help the performers play some of their instruments. Please take a look at some of the photos from their visit.

Robin Park Arena will be holding an Art exhibition next week featuring artwork by local schools. Westfield has been included, and some of the children from our class will have their work displayed there. Please go along and have a look!

We looked at paintings by the famous artist Paul Klee as our inspiration. Here are some of the children's pictures.

Our Certificate Winner this week is William for producing quality writing with powerful imagery which he read aloud to class. So, a big well done from us all! no

Take a look at his AMAZING writing below.
