Friday 8th December

Friday 8th December

Welcome to Y5F’s blog for this week. It has been another busy week and we have been working hard.

Maths – This week in Maths the children have been investigating multiplying numbers by 10, 100 and 1,000 as well as dividing numbers by 10, 100 and 1,000. This involves moving numbers on a place value chart to the left if you are multiplying (making the numbers bigger) or to the right if you are dividing (making the numbers smaller). The number of zeros tell us how many places to move, (x or ÷ by 10 move one place as one zero, x or ÷ by 100 move two places as two zeros, x or ÷ by 1000 move three places as three places etc…)

Have some fun at home playing this place value game…

English – This week the children have been thinking about dragons! We have been enjoying listening to the escapades of Hiccup and his dragon Toothless in our class novel How to Train Your Dragon. Also, the children have begun to plan to write a bedtime story about dragons based around a variety of different dragon stories they have been looking at.

Topic – This week the children have begun sketching Viking longships in their artbooks, they have used pencils to sketch, then they coloured them using coloured pencils. They are now working on their final piece using cartridge paper and oil pastels. They look absolutely amazing and we can’t wait to see them all once completed.

Here is our CERTIFICATE WINNER this week. She won for her constant dedication to her learning. She gives maximum effort in everything she does. A true pleasure to teach. smileysmileysmiley She went on to be chosen as THE UPPER PHASE PUPIL OF THE WEEK. A massive well done to her from all of Year 5F. (PS – that’s THREE weeks on the bounce that a pupil from our class has been chosen! What a fabulous achievement!) nonono

REMINDER

We would like to invite you to come and join us on Tuesday 12th December for a ‘Parent Drop In’ session and a mince pie. This informal session will give you the chance to take a look at your child’s work so far this year and have a chat with Mrs Dougherty and Mrs Roberts. The session will run from 3.15 till 4.30pm. We hope you can join us and look forward to seeing you.

We would like to wish you all a fantastic weekend and we will see you again on Monday.
