HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Welcome back to the Year 5W blog. It has been a busy first week with lots of interesting and exciting activities going on.

Maths - This week has been all about handling and collecting data (information) and then finding different ways to present and interpret (understand) it. Well, we have been whizz kids with this all week.

We have concentrated on Venn and Carroll diagrams as a way of sorting and understanding the information we have collected. Please click on the following link which helps to explain how they both work.

English - We have been looking at spelling this week, concentrating on words with tial and cial endings. Also, we began the week with a speaking and listening activity where everybody took the opportunity to tell us about what they had been up to over the Christmas break. This was followed, later in the week, by the children writing about their favourite...toy, present, holiday, TV programme, pop star, football team, meal...well, in fact, their favourite WHATEVER!

Topic - We have begun to look at our brand new topic for this half term called EARTH AND SPACE. This will be closely linked to our Science work as well. We have all completed some pretty amazing mind maps to show what we already know about Earth and Space. Many of us could name some of the planets in our solar system already. Can you?

This week in Assembly our CERTIFICATE WINNER was Kaylee for becoming 'super organised' this year. Reading book, planner, homework and learning log completed and handed in on time. Keep it up! Fantastic, what a great start to this year!

Our multiplication wristband winners this week are...

Lewis x2x5x10

Abbie x2x5x10

Kaylee x3x4

Callum H x3x4

Cory x3x4

Billy x6x9

Casey x6x9

Keely x11x12

A big well done to them all. We also have quite a number of certificate winners who are working hard towards achieving their next wristband. Again, a big well done to them all.

Finally, all that remains is for us to wish you a fantastic weekend and hope to see you all back in school on Monday.
