Friday 9th March

Friday 9th March

Welcome to Y5F’s blog for the week! It has been a busy and unexpectedly snowy week!

Maths – This week we have continued investigating fractions. We have carried on looking at equivalent fractions and the relationship between them. Our mantra has been…whatever you do to the numerator you do the same to the denominator. For example,

After that, we moved on to investigating how to convert between mixed numbers and improper fractions. A mixed number is a whole number along with a fraction like 4 ½ whereas an improper fraction is a fraction with a numerator larger than the denominator like 7/4. Here’s a quick explanation of how to convert between the two…

Take a look at this website which helps to explain a little further…

Science – The children have had an introduction to their new topic all about FORCES. They have been thinking about how forces affect us in everyday life. They produced a mind map detailing what they think the topic might be about.

Topic – The children have begun their new topic for this half term called CLIMB EVERY MOUNTAIN. Working in groups, the children investigated mountain ranges around the world. They drew where the mountain ranges are and then wrote up some interesting facts about the mountain ranges and the continents they are found on.

Here is our CERTIFICATE WINNER for the week. He won for being an absolute fraction fiend. His mature and sensible attitude is helping him fly through his fraction work. A big well done from us all.

We would like to wish you all a fantastic weekend. Once again, keep safe in these extreme weather conditions.
