Hi everyone, 

We've had another busy week in year 1!

English

In English this week we have been creating our own aliens (following on from the martian in The Way Back Home) and writing a description about them. Ours aliens were fantastic! We had a great range of sizes, colours, numbers of eyes and legs and antenna! Then we wrote some excellent character descriptions of their aliens using adjectives and some even included some exciting sentences! Can you create another alien at home? 

Maths

This week we have been learning about 2d and 3d shapes. We can name the 2d shapes, triangle, rectangle, square and circle, and name the 3d shapes cylinder, sphere (the children like to say Sophia for this one!), cube, cuboid and pyramid. See what 2d (flat) and 3d shapes you can find in your houses or when you are out and about. We really enjoyed creating patterns using 2d or 3d shapes too.

We have enjoyed this game in the afternoons and can even complete some level 3 patterns! patterns game

Science

In science this week we continued out learning about materials and investigated stretchy and stiff materials.

Topic

In topic this week we continued our learning about First Steps in space and focused on Helen Sharman. This tied in really well with International Women's Day this week! We learnt that Helen was a scientist and she heard an advert on the radio looking for astronauts. She got the job and trained really hard doing lots of fitness tests and even learning Russian. Then she became the first British woman in space! When she came home she got an OBE from the Queen.

PSHE

In PSHE this week we have looked at healthy and unhealthy foods. We can eat lots of healthy foods but need to try and eat unhealthy foods occasionally.

We're looking forward to our visit on the ALPS from Little Barn Farm on Monday. Please remember to wrap up well as we will be spending some time outside and the forecast is very windy.
