1st October

The first month of pre-school has flown by!

We have settled perfectly into the rules and routines of the classroom- now the real fun can begin!

This week in pre-school we have been learning about Nursery rhymes.  We often sing these rhymes without truly understanding the words.  This week we talked about the words and even acted some out.

Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star

We though about what time of the day you may sing this song.  Yes! At night!  We cannot see the stars in the daytime because it is too bright.  We used our increasing scissor skills to cut out a star and a the Earth (world) and made them into stick puppets.  We could then sing the song using our puppets.

Incy Wincy Spider

When we read the words in the song, we felt sorry for the spider who had worked so hard to climb to the top of the water spout only to be washed down again by the rain.  We thought he was very determined to climb back up it again.  We sequenced the rhyme by looking at pictures in different stages of the rhyme.

The Grand Old Duke of York

The children learned that the Old Duke was the soldier in charge and he had to give instructions to all of the other soldiers.  We thought he would have a loud voice.  Mrs Rothwell became the Grand Old Duke and the children were the soldiers- 'ATTENTION!'
