21st January

Over the past two weeks in pre-school we have started to learn about Our Community.

Last term, we learned about ourselves and our family and this term we will build upon that by learning about the world around us.

We have learned that the people in our classroom are important to us through the story 'Our class is a family'.

We thought about the roles that our family members have at home and what our role is within our classroom.  The children were given 'jobs' based upon the areas of learning they like the best in our classroom environment.  This will be their role for the rest of the term.  This has given them a sense of ownership within our classroom environment.

We thought about who our best friend is and drew pictures of our best friend.  Some children even had a go at writing their best friend's name!

This week, we have learned about another important place in our community....the supermarket!  We looked at different supermarket logos and most children told us that they shopped at Asda with their grown ups from home.  We made an Asda role play area.  The children have LOVED it!  They wrote a list for what the wanted from Asda, got a trolley or basket and selected the items and then took it to the till to pay.  Austin was brilliant at scanning the items and Lily loved playing with the money!

We have also welcomed two more children into the number 4 club since we started back at school in January.  Happy birthday girls!
