24th September

This week in pre-school we have been reading and learning about the story 'Brown Bear, Brown Bear, what do you see?'

This story is very popular for pre-school children as it is easy to remember the repeated parts of the story.

We have used this book for cross curricular links- this is to support the children in trying new challenges with a familiar story to support them.

Maths

We categorsied items by colour using the colour tubes.  The children were given a colour tube (pink, blue, green, yellow or red) and then they had to select the correct coloured items from their tube from an array of colours.

We also made simple ABAB repeating patterns using our two favourite animals from the story i.e horse, cat, horse, cat, horse, cat.

Literacy

We read the story in a small group and talked about which animal was our favourite and why.  This led to a discussion about pets that we have in our homes.  Ava told us that she has a lizard named Peaches and Lily said that she has 'loads if colourful fish'.

We then drew a picture of our favourite animal from the story- using the correct colour and focussing upon the features of the animals.  These will be displayed in the classroom- look out for the photograph on next week's blog!

Communication, Language and Understanding

In our listening groups we have been learning each others names.  We had to wait to hear our own name and listen carefully to a simple instruction.  We then had to carry out that instruction- we are getting better each day at listening!

In the classroom we are settling well into the routines.  We are beginning to understand what each apron is for and how to look after ourselves, our friends and the environment.

Ruby deserves a special mention this week.  She received Star of the Day this week as she was especially caring towards another little girl who had fallen over and hurt herself.  Ruby immediately saw how upset the other little girl was, rushed to the bathroom and came back with a cold compress for her.  She then gave her a big squeeze and ask if she was ok.  Well done Ruby!

See you all next week
