27th January

This week in pre-school we have been reading the story 'Let's Go shopping Peppa!'

We turned our role play area into 'ASDA' and introduced trollies and baskets for the children to pretend to shop.

Being the 'shopkeeper' was very popular as the children handled coins and talked to their friends about what they were buying.  The coins also made a wonderful noise when they were put inside the empty milk bottles and shook!

The children drew and labelled items they like to buy when they go shopping.

We have displayed some of these on our classroom display and the others will be sent home next week once added to the children's learning journey.

In the continuous provision we had a focus on mathematical language this week.

We built towers with blocks and used the peg boards to stack whilst the adults discussed words like 'tall, taller and tallest, short, shorter and shortest' with the children.

In Mrs Rothwell's group we ordered the children by height- Grace was the shortest and Charlie was the tallest!

We have also been learning about properties of 2d shapes.

We are learning that a circle has 1 curved side and no corners

a triangle has three straight sides and three corners

a square has 4 straight sides that are of equal length (the same)                                         and 4 corners.

a rectangle has two long sides and two short sides and 4 corners

If you could spot these shapes at home and name them with your child, that would be amazing!  We have talked about how a door is a rectangle shape, or how the clock is a circle shape in class- we look forward to hearing what your child spotted at home!

We enjoyed our PE sessions this week also- we danced with Coach Michaela on Monday and practised our fundamental skills with Coach Beth on Wednesday.

We are looking forward to another week learning about our local environment next week reading the story 'The Journey Home from Grandpa's'

See you next week!
