Friday 19th November

Friday 19th November 2021

Welcome to Y6F’s blog for this week. It has been a busy week here on the Upper Phase.

English – We have begun our new class novel this week, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by CS Lewis. The children have been introduced to the four children in the book, Susan, Peter, Edmund and Lucy. They have also met the fawn Mr. Tumnus and the White Witch. They have discovered that the book is the second in a series entitled The Chronicles of Narnia. The children have been researching the life of the book’s author CS Lewis. Did you know his full name was Clive Staples Lewis and that he was born in Belfast in 1898? They have written their own biography about him this week.

Today in school we have had a visit from Andy Tooze, the poet from The Peaks. The children have been entertained and amazed by his wonderful poetry. They had a workshop with him this morning and have all written their own poem. Their title was Twenty Words About…and they wrote it about what ever topic they chose. They have written some fantastic draft poems. We will post their finished poems on next week’s blog. Here are some photos from his visit…

Maths – The children continued to investigate fractions. This week they have been adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators. They have also begun to look at adding mixed number fractions together.

This online game is a quick, easy and fun way to practise adding fractions at home…

Topic – The children have been learning about another capital city this week…Tokyo in Japan. They have written postcards home (as if they had visited) telling us all about what they have done while there.

All that remains to say is have a good weekend. We will see you back in school on Monday.
