Friday 20th June

Friday 20th June

Hello everyone!

It has been a very strange and unusual week!!

On Monday, we enjoyed our first visit to Blackpool and experienced lots of exciting things! This is the start of our ICE project (Inspiring Children through Employment).

First, we learnt all about the history of the Pleasure Beach and found out about all of the catering career opportunities available.

Unexpectedly, the Army were holding a charity event at the park to fundraise and explain to the public about the job opportunities within the military. We were able to spend time chatting to the soldiers and take part in some activities: climbing an outdoor wall - harnessed safely of course!, sitting in the army vehicles, learning about the cavalry section - it was fascinating!

Next, we took a tour of the park and enjoyed a free sample of garlic bread from the manager at The Big Pizza Restaurant! Yum Yum! The manager remembered Westfield from last year's trip because the pupils made beautiful thank you cards after he also treated them to some free samples! He said that he'd displayed them in the restaurant - so of course, we have repeated the 'thank you' cards!!

In the afternoon, we took part in an academy challenge and worked as a team in the Paradise Room, to set tables! We impressed Peter, the manager, so much that he found it hard to choose a winner! We can now set a table for 10 for a 3 course meal!!

On Tuesday, we completed follow-up work and our books are looking amazing! We have also designed a fair ground ride for the ALPS!!

From Wednesday to Friday, most of us have been to Abraham Guest for our Transition days! The remainder of us have worked on various tasks including making our very own football mascot!

We are off to Blackpool again on Monday and will learn all about costume design! We can't wait!
