Friday 23rd September

Welcome to our blog for the week. It has been exceptionally busy here in Year 6.

Maths - This week the children have been investigating rounding numbers up from the nearest 10 all the way to the nearest 10,000,000!

English - The children have been working on SUPER SENTENCES this week. They have been refining their NWWW sentences. (noun, who, which, where) These are simple sentences with a noun that has been expanded with some extra information.  This is achieved by dropping in a relative clause using a pair of commas, dashes or brackets. This song helps to explain in a fun way. Click on the link below...

Here are some examples from the children's work this week...

Mother - who had been dreading this day for weeks - dressed Hetty.     By Leo

The journey, which seemed to last for ages, was miserable.                     By Mia

Gideon, who was mesmerised by the cart, sat peacefully.                        By Holly

Gideon (who was oblivious to where they were going) gazed carefully at the majestic cart.         By Jenson

We are continuing to read our class novel Hetty Feather by Jacqueline Wilson which is about a young girl abandoned as a baby during Victorian times. The children are engrossed in the story and can't wait for Mr Metcalfe to read a every day.

This week Holly is our certificate winner. She won for her excellent effort and application to create SUPER SENTENCE structures independently. Well done from all of Year 6W!

That's all for this week. Have a wonderful weekend and we will see you again on Monday.
