Friday 3rd March

Good morning and welcome to this week's blog from Year 6W. It has been a busy first week back in school.

Maths -  This week the children have been investigating finding the perimeter and area of rectangular shapes. They have also been finding out how to find the perimeter and area of compound shapes. (Shapes that can be split into two rectangles.)

English - We have started our latest class novel, Inside Out and Back Again by Thanhha Lai. The story is inspired by the author's childhood experience as a refugee - fleeing Vietnam after the Fall of Saigon and immigrating to Alabama, USA. The children are enjoying listening to the story of Hà, who has only ever known Saigon: the thrills of its markets, the joy of its traditions, and the warmth of her friends close by. But now the Vietnam War has reached her home. Hà and her family are forced to flee as Saigon falls, and they board a ship headed toward hope--toward America.

Our certificate winner this week was Brody Lee. He won for a settled week back after half term and putting a good shift in with his work. Well done from all of Year 6W.

That's all for this week. Have a great weekend and we will see you back in school on Monday.
