Space Day at Westfield

As part of International Space Day, Westfield had their own Space Day, some of the year 6 pupils went to Joderal Bank Discovery Centre, whilst the other children and the children of year 5 experienced star gazing in the hall.

The children sat inside Astrosphere and learnt about the the stars and planets. Astrosphere is an inflatable  mobile Planaterium with a computer generated star projector that creates a realistic night sky of over 3000 stars.

The children learnt about some constelations and the stories behind them.

The presentation was carried out by Steve Ibbotson view his website here

At the end of the day the Year 6 children had an oppertunity to look through a telescope. The moon would have been visible in the south east of the sky, but was covered by clouds, therefore we had a look at Haigh Hall, which appeared to be very close.
