The school council approached Mrs Baker to see if something could be organised for a better bicycle storage area. The council came up with the idea for each class to bake a cake. The cakes would be judged and a winner chosen and awarded a trophy. The cakes would then be sold to pupils and staff to raise money for the bicycle shed. Children could also bring in home made cakes to be sold for additional funds.
The staff were astonished at the quantity and quality of the cakes brought in. All different themes were chosen, winter Olympics and Valentines day were popular themes. Once the judging had been carried out the children were allowed to purchase cakes to eat or take home, parents would have the opportunity the following day to purchase cakes.
The children's cakes were judged by the chair of Governors, Mrs Coghlin and the class entries were judged by our own award winning cake maker, who is our head cook, Miss McGrath. Last year Miss McGrath won a national cake making competition.
The trophy will be presented to the winning class in Friday's assembly, they will hold the trophy for twelve months until the next bakeoff.
