This week we have been learning all about 'Chinese New Year'.
* We read the story of 'The Great Race' and talked about how the Emperor invited the animals to have a race across the river to determine the order of the zodiac years. We found that the Rat was first - although he did cheat a little, and the Cat was last! We used masks to play the parts of the story and discussed what we could see happening in the pictures.
* Do you know in China, they use Chopsticks to eat their food? We each had a turn of using chopsticks to pick up crisp.......it was very tricky!
* We watched videos and looked at photographs of Dragon/Lion dancing and then we used a variety of colours, materials and textures to make our own Dragon! Once it was dry, we went outside and took it in turns to be the dragons head whilst our friends were the body, we danced around the playground to the sound of the musical instruments.
* We tasted Chinese food for snack, such as, noodles, prawn crackers and spring rolls. It was very tasty, we all liked the noodles the most.
* On Thursday, we talked about how at New year, children in China are given a lucky red envelope which has lucky coin inside. We each used different collage materials to make an envelope, we then received a lucky (chocolate) coin.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
