Week ending 17th September 2021

Hello and welcome to our first class blog in Reception. What a wonderful first week we have had as well. This week we have been settling in and learning all about the routines in class. We have been using the text Starting School to help us understand the routines. This is a lovely story about a class of children and all of the things they encounter duirng their first week in school - if you would like to watch/listen to the story please follow the link at the end of the blog. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zQivaCXu-Q

We have been busy thinking about us as individuals and our place in the classroom. To help us settle and feel a part of the class we each painted a picture about ourselves and wrote our name - these are now proudly displaced in our classroom.

This week we have been thinking about shapes in the classroom and naming them. We have found out that the most popular shape on display in our classroom is a square and we discovered that a triangle is tricky to find. What shapes can you see in and around your house? Have a go at drawing them and labelling them i would love to see smiley

We have also been thinking about numbers and where they are found in and around the classroom. Take a look at our wonderful work. Fabulous isn't it?

We have also been thinking about our local community. We talked about the different routes people take to school and how we come to school via different means for example walk, bike and car. We then made a wonderful map depicting all of the things we see on our way to school - can you spot anything that looks familiar? The children had some amazing ideas and we worked together to create one large story map.

Next week now that the children have settled in we are going to start our focused learning with the text Marvellous Me. this is a wonderful book that allows children to think about and celebrate all of the things they enjoy and looks at how we are all different and unique and celebrates this.

Reception update their class blog each and every Friday and here you will find out all about what we have been learning about in class. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to either weduc or ask a member of staff.
