week ending 25th November 2022

Hello and welcome back to our blog. This week we have been exploring the beautifully illustrated text On the Farm - this has been a lovely book to use to learn more about the different animals on the farm. Let's take a look at this weeks learning ...

So we started the week off by learning about the team we were given in the Westfield World Cup draw. Drum roll please .............. The Netherlands! As you can see we have been exploring the world map, locating the Netherlands and decorating our room - we are loving the challenge smiley

This week we have been exploring writing in different areas of the classroom. We have made marks on small and large pieces of paper, practised our read write sounds and completed some vertical mark making - great for developing our shoulder muscles smiley

We have also been exploring our phonics in other activities in the classroom. Every week we take different letter sounds and find objects that have the same sound at the beginning of their name for example j, t, w and o. We then have a challenge to sort the objects according to their initial sounds - sometimes we put tricky ones in to get the children really thinking enlightened

We have also been busy learning about labels and when we use them in our writing. We all came to the carpet, choose an animal from the story and had a go at writing a label. Take a little look at our work. We are so very proud of it and rightly so smiley

Despite the rain this week we have tried to get out and about as much as possible. We took the bubble blowing resources out and counted how many we popped, we talked about the colours we could see, we tried to collect them on the blower and we even had a competition to see how far we could get them to travel before they popped

And finally, we have been exploring different ways to record numbers. We have been exposing the children to strategies such as a tally chart, using money, spots, time etc. Take a look at this weeks work. I am so very proud smiley

Next week we will be using the text Rumble In The Jungle. Have a little look over the weekend on You Tube with a grown up. It's a lovely story and a perfect one to help us learn about another set of animals who live in a different location. So far we have been learning about animals that live in the home, seaside, under the sea, on the farm and next week the Jungle.

Have a great weekend
