week ending 3rd March 2023

A very warm welcome back to our class blog. We hope that you had a lovely half term and the children have come back to school keen and ready to learn. This week we have been using the text Oliver's vegetables to help us with our learning. We have been thinking about all of the wonderful vegetables and fruit that we can taste and explore. Here is a sneak peek at this weeks lovely learning...

We started the week off with some lovely observational drawings. We looked carefully at different types of fruit and vegetables and their appearance, types of seeds and how colours may differ on the inside of different fruits and vegetables. Take a look at some of our lovely examples smiley

We also looked at different fruits and used the magnifiers to help us identify similarities and differences. This created lots of lovely discussions about where and how things grow, the different countries produce comes from and encouraged us to try new things.

As we do with every text, we created a story map. We added such a lot of detail about the key events in the story. A great tool for helping generate ideas and memory skills. We then revisit this later on in the week when we do our innovating work. More to come on that!

We have been busy updating and changing our classroom over the holidays in order to provide the children with lots of new and exciting learning opportunities. We now have a superhero writing station! The work that the children have produced has been amazing and they are super keen to write.

Innovating our text is a way we help children to secure their knowledge of characters and events in the texts we use to support learning. This week we have changed the character and what he didn't like. So for example Oliver was  a little boy who didn't like vegetables.  We changed the character and what they didn't like and hey presto. Look at the wonderful ideas we generated.

On Thursday we celebrated World Book Day. What an amazing day it was! we listened to lots of different stories, we talked about our favourite books and characters and we learned about what it would be like to be an author and illustrator. Take a look at these ideas. Thank you for your support with this!

We hope that you have an amazing weekend.
