Week ending 6th January 2023

Hello and a very Happy New Year to you all. It might only have been a short week but we are back and raring to go. This half term we will be using Traditional Tales as the focus for our learning. We will use texts such as Jack and the Beanstalk, 3 little Pigs and this weeks wonderful text, the Gingerbread Man to help us with our learning. Let's take a little look at this week in Reception.

We have really enjoyed playing in our new role play area. We have created the 3 little pigs houses and are continuing to develop our language linked to Traditional Tales such as Once upon a time and all of the lovely repetitive refrains from these stories. Our favourite this week has been I'll huff and I'll puff and I will blow your house down! smiley

We have also been busy accessing our continuous provision challenges. Here we are making houses using elastic bands. We heard lots of lovely language during this challenge such as stretch, long, short, pull, bend, twist, straight. Amazing work everyone yes

We have also been exploring words and letters this week in conjunction with our learning in Read Write Inc. We discovered there are so many ways to record and write that don't need a pencil. We went outside and drew letters with chalk and water, we used magnetic letters, felt tip pens and added lovely labels to our characters from the Gingerbread Man story. What different tools and media can you use to write at home? I would love to see some examples. Why not send them via Weduc?

We have also been exploring numbers. We have created number sentences using 5 and 10 frame and some counters. Take a look at these wonderful examples.

In addition to our number sentences we have been learning about the importance of zero. Here we are using and sorting different numbers depending on whether they are zero or not zero. This is a super easy thing to do with objects in and around the house.

And finally, it has been a very wet week. However, we have been able to go outside and use the space. Here are our budding artists who wanted to use chalk and share their ideas and thoughts. Take a look at the wonderful sunshine. Fingers crossed we see it next week smiley

Next week we will be using the text Jack and The Beanstalk to help us with our learning. Remember it is not too late to send me a picture of our child opening and using their Christmas gift from school. I hope that you have had many opportunities to snuggle up together and enjoy a book

Have a great weekend
