Hi everyone,

We’re really looking forward to seeing the progress your child has made in the reading assessments this week. Thanks for your continued support at home with reading at home and it has been great that so many of you accessing the RWI video links we sent home too.

Maths

This week we have started to look at addition. We have introduced the part-whole model (don’t worry – it’s different to how we learnt it at school!). The children have been practising getting the two parts and pushing them together, or counting all of them to find the whole. You can find an example here https://kids.classroomsecrets.co.uk/resource/year-1-part-whole-model-game/

English

Our English this week has focused on a story called ‘Bob and the Pink Wig’. The children have enjoyed this story and have really been trying to use their Fred fingers to spell words.

Topic

In topic this week we have recapped our learning in History so far and checked our knowledge of old and new toys through sorting pictures. We also started our art section of this topic which is self-portraits. This week our focus was on using our pencil as an artist and practising techniques such as shading, blending and highlighting.

Science

This week we have focused on a scientist called Charles Macintosh. We found out that he invented waterproof fabric and thought about how useful this is! We learnt that other words for waterproof coat include raincoat and mac, and it is called a mac after Charles Macintosh!

Have a lovely weekend!
