3rd March 2017

Hello and welcome to our 3F Class Blog for this week.smiley

We hope you all had a great half term and enjoyed spending special time together. As usual, we have had lots of fun learning new things in our class this week, so we hope you enjoy hearing all about them.

Firstly, we would like to say a very special mention to our class ‘Pupil of the Week’, who was chosen for his much improved attendance which has resulted in his great progress across each subject. He impressed all the teachers so much that he even won the Lower Key Stage Two trophy! Well done SUPERSTAR, keep it up!smileyno

Once again, can we also say a huge well done to our ‘Reading Superstars’. These are the children in our class who have read at home each day this week and remembered to bring in their Reading Record book signed. We are having a big focus on reading as it is so essential to the progress that children make. Please can we ask for all our parents support with this. Thank you.smiley

A very special mention also to those children who achieved the spelling badge and times table band they have been working on this week. Keep practising everyone, let’s see those badges and bands worn proudly in 3F! You are amazing!smiley

World Book Day was a real highlight this week for us all. We thoroughly enjoyed dressing up and saw some amazing costumes for book characters. A huge thank you to all those children who brought books into school to swap. We hope everyone in class loves reading the new books they brought home. We have also introduced new books in our reading corner and hope everyone will enjoy reading them.

Can you guess which character we all are? Good Luck!

In English, we have continues to focus on Roald Dahl’s ‘Matilda’. We started by retelling parts of the story orally in our groups, thinking about what happens throughout the story, then went on to plot the story on a story mountain. Mrs Bradley-Baker was really impressed by how well we could identify the main ideas and summarise each part. Next, we looked at how Matilda is described by the filmmakers as an a modern day fairy tale and compared it to the fairy tales that we know, for example we thought about how it has fantasy characters who are good and bad and how some have magical powers. We were great at identifying ‘Goodies and Baddies’ and comparing them. Finally, we planned character descriptions for Matilda and Miss Thunchbull. As it was Pancake Day on Tuesday, our homework was a comprehension activity answering questions to check our understanding of what we have read. Remember to answer in full sentences!

In Maths, we have continued to learn about measurement by adding and subtracting different lengths in mm, cm and m. Our challenge was to show our answers in mixed units. We were so good that we even went on to solve missing number problems involving length, for example:

47mm - ____ = 24mm

81m - ____ = 48m

Some of us were real superstars!smileyno

In computing, we used the questions we researched before the holidays to complete our ‘Scratch Roman Quiz’. We worked really well in our pairs to work out how to design the program. Well done everyone as this was really tricky!no

Science this week, has been showing what we have learnt about Light. Mrs Bradley-Baker was blown away by how well we all did! We then went on to think about our new Science topic ‘Forces and Magnets’  and what we already know about this.

We also competed an assessment for our Romans topic, to show what we learnt last half term. Then were introduced to our new topic ‘Natural Disasters’ and thought about what we already know and what we would like to find out about.

Finally, just a reminder about our Special Person Assembly on the 22nd March. The children have begun practising songs for this so it would be great if they could continue at home. Thank you as always for your continued support.smileyno

We hope you have enjoyed our blog and will visit us again next week.

Take care,

 From Everyone in 3Fsmiley
