Friday 10th December

Friday 10th December 2021

Welcome to Y6F’s blog for this week. It has been a busy week here on the upper phase!

English – The children have begun listening to our new class novel, Clockwork by Phillip Pulman.

Here is the blurb from the book…

It is a cold winter’s night when Karl enters the White Horse Tavern looking like he’s swallowed a thundercloud.

His final task as a clockmaker’s apprentice is to make a new figure for the great clock of Glockenheim. He has not made the figure, or got any idea of what it could be - and the unveiling is tomorrow.

Fritz is also in the tavern; there to read aloud his new spooky story. Like Karl, he hasn’t finished. Well, he knows how it starts and he knows it’s called Clockwork - so, with the snow swirling down outside, he sets his story going and just has to hope that the ending will come to him as he tells it.

Suddenly, Fritz’s story and real life merge in a completely sinister way-and just like clockwork it cannot be stopped…

The children are already hooked and can’t wait to find out what happens next!

Maths – This week the children have been investigating co-ordinates. Also, they have been learning how to translate a shape (move it on a co-ordinates grid) and how to reflect a shape across a mirror line.

This online game is a quick, easy and fun way to learn about co-ordinates across all four quadrants…

Topic – The children have been learning about more capital cities this week…Buenos Aires, which is the capital of Argentina and Cairo, which is the capital of Egypt. The children have produced some artwork of the Great Pyramid of Giza. Here is a selection to look at…

Here is our certificate winner for this week. He won for being a great team captain in PE. He makes sure that everyone on his team gets a fair turn and looks after those that are less confident. A true team player!

All that remains to say is have a great weekend. We will see you again on Monday. Can you believe it is the last week of term next week?
