Friday 11th February

Welcome to this week’s blog for Y6F. It has been a busy week here in Year 6F.

Maths – This week the children have been investigating algebra in Maths. Algebra is the part of maths that uses letters and other symbols to represent numbers and quantities in equations.  This easy-to-follow tutorial explains algebra in more detail…

English – This week the children have read their new class novel, The Mozart Question by Michael Morpurgo. The book has a powerful message about the holocaust. The story begins with Lesley, who is sent to Venice to interview Paulo Levi (a world-renowned violinist) on his fiftieth birthday. She is told she can ask him anything – just not the Mozart question! Paulo decides it’s time for the world to know the truth and tells Lesley the story of his parents, who were Jewish prisoners of war. They were forced to play Mozart for the enemy, while watching fellow Jews being marched off to their deaths.

Topic – The children have been learning about rationing during WW2. Did you know that during the second World War both essential and non-essential foods were rationed, as well as clothing, furniture, and petrol? This website tells you all about rationing during World War2…

Here is our certificate winner for this week. She won for being Westfield's very own Matilda! She is 6F's bookworm and it is a delight to see her reading for pleasure at every given opportunity. Her mum even caught her walking to school with her nose in a book!!!!

All that remains to be said  is to have a fabulous weekend and we will see you all again next week.

P.S. - Don’t forget it’s Valentine’s Day on Monday!
