Friday 13th July

Friday 13th July

Welcome to Year 5F’s blog for the week. It has, as always, been a hectic and busy week with lots going on!

Maths – This week the children have begun to look at scaling. This is looking at the relationship between mm and cm, cm and m, m and km. Also, ml and l and g and kg. All these measurements use the metric system. This means that to be able  convert between units of measurement you need to x and ÷ by 10, 100 and 1000.

Why not prepare yourself some 'horrendous' soup by playing this inline game? You need to select the correct ingredients and then convert the measurements given to another unit of measurement.

English - This week we have concentrated on reading. The children have read a variety of texts linked to our Ancient Greeks topic and then answered comprehension questions about what they have read.

On Wednesday, our GOLD CARD winners were treated to a cinema trip to watch Sherlock Gnomes. A big well done to Scarlett and Abigail who both had a fabulous time and thoroughly enjoyed the movie. They have been presented with their gold star badges to wear with pride. A big well done to them both from all of us.

On Thursday, it was the long awaited West Fest! Thankfully, the weather cooled a little to make it a more pleasant afternoon outside on the playing field. The children from Pre-School and Reception started the afternoon off with a song and dance. They were just amazing!

This was followed by the whole school entertaining the crowds with a few songs that the children had chosen in assembly the previous week. Finally, each class had been busy beavering away all week producing goods to sell. Year 5 had made ice cream sandwiches to sell as well as ice cream soda with chocolate or sprinkles. Our goods were sold out in record time! A huge thank you to everyone who came along for the afternoon and showed their support. All the money raised will go towards paying for the children's Christmas parties.

On Friday, it was the end of year ATTENDANCE assembly for all the children who have achieved 100% attendance over the year. The winners from Year 5F were Mollie and Ellis. They both received their 100% gold badges to wear with pride and a gift card to spend at Smyths. Well done to them both from all of 5F on their super attendance.

All that remains is to wish you a wonderful weekend. Don't forget that we break up next Wednesday 18th July for the Summer Holidays.
