Friday 15th December

Hello everyone and welcome to our penultimate blog of 2023! What another busy and hardworking week in year 4.

In Maths, we have been doing lots of work around our times tables again. Focusing this week on our 7's and 11's. Just a reminder for lots of practise at home, as this will really help your children to remember and recall them.

In writing, we have completed our newspaper reports about the discovery of Tutankahmun's tomb. The children worked so hard on these and were very proud of their work.

We had a special visitor in school on Monday, from Wigan Council giving an assembly about Christmas waste and how we can be more sustainable over the Christmas period. Have a go this Christmas making crafts out of left over paper and cardboard boxes and remember to recycle as much as you can!

Next weeks because it will be a very busy week, children will not have a spelling test. However, when we come back in the Spring term, we will be working on achieving our spelling badges.

If your child is on Bronze, their first ten words are

  1. address - The parcel was posted to the new address.
  2. answer – Jenny knew the answer to the question.
  3. appear - In spring flowers appear.
  4. believe - The teacher did not believe the story.
  5. build - There was time to build the model boat
  6. caught - The fish was caught in the net.
  7. circle - Everyone stood in a circle to play the game.
  8. complete - The puzzle was difficult to complete.
  9. consider - He did not consider asking for help.
  10.  decide - They couldn’t decide what to do.

If your child is on Silver, their first ten words are

  1. accident - James dropped the glass by accident.
  2. actually - I thought he had been killed, but actually he survived
  3. arrive - It was important for the bus to arrive on time.
  4. breathe - I would like you to breathe in and breathe out.
  5. bicycle- Jenny bought a bicycle with her pocket money.
  6. busy - Toby’s mum was always busy at work.
  7. business - Hannah gave out her business card.
  8. calendar - The calendar was hung up on the wall.
  9. centre - Finley bought a t-shirt from the shopping centre.
  10.  century - 100 years is also known as a century.

Next week, our Christmas party is on Wednesday. Children to come in their own clothes this day!

See you all next week and have a lovely weekend.
