Friday 15th September

Hello and welcome back to the Yr5W Blog.

Maths

We carried on our work with place value and started the week looking at comparing numbers using ‘more than’ > or ‘less than’ <

symbols.. eg. 2345 > 2322 10 367 < 10 497

Following this, we worked on ordering numbers and then rounding numbers to the nearest 10 , 100 , 1,000, 10,000 and 100,000

Try the rounding game

English

In English we started work on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory; the novel we took home over the summer holidays. We had to think and plan what Charlie would think, feel, see and say about the Chocolate Factory. We then wrote an opening paragraph using exciting vocabulary.

Did you know that on Wednesday 13th September it was Roald Dahl day? We did lots of exciting activities to celebrate what an exceptional author he was; produced a fact file and completed a comprehension all about him.

Science

In science this week we looked at how animals have adapted to their environment/habitat. A squirrel and a duck were the animals we looked at. We also looked at parts of a plant and the function they have.

Topic

We were given pictures of animals and plants and asked to sort them into woodland or wetland. This work linked with our science work as we had to think about why they lived where they did.

Pupil of the Week is

Amber Foster for an outstanding description of how she felt standing at the gates of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. Her handwriting and choice of vocabulary was Scrumdiddlyumptious!!!

Birthdays

A very Happy Birthday to Maddison, who shares her birthday with the great Roald Dahl (13th September) We hope you had a lovely day.

Have a great weekend and we’ll see you again on Monday.
