Friday 18th October

Friday 18th October 2019

Welcome to this week’s blog from Year 5F. Thank you to everyone who came to Parent’s Evening this week, it was lovely meeting you all.

We can’t quite believe we have arrived at the half term holiday already! How quickly the time has passed.

Maths – What a busy week we have had in Maths! The children have been investigating temperature, negative and positive numbers on a timeline and how to work out the difference between them as well using the bar model (part/whole) to work out missing numbers in pyramid problems. This short video shows what a pyramid problem looks like…

This website allows you to practise reading temperatures both vertically and horizontally. It allows you to practise finding the difference between two temperatures…

English – This week the children have competed their hot task and written their own portal story. They characters have gone through a portal (for example…at the back of a wardrobe, down a hole, into a book) and discovered themselves in a strange new land.

Topic – The children have drawn several sketches of some of the wildfowl they saw at Martin Mere. Next, they picked their favourite and painted it using watercolour paints.

Science – The children have been learning about the lifecycle of a dragonfly. They completed a lifecycle diagram in their books by putting pictures into the correct order. Watch this short film which explains their lifecycle in more detail…

Here is our certificate winner for the week. She won for simply being herself. An absolute pleasure to teach and a delight to have in class! She really is a wonderful role-model. yesyesyesCongratulations from everyone in Year 5. smileysmileysmiley

All that remains to say is have a fabulous half term break and we will see you again on Monday 28th October.
