Friday 24th March

Red Nose Day

Friday 24th March

Hello and welcome back to our blog. Here is what we’ve been up to this week…

In English we watched a wordless story video called ‘Before Sunrise’ which enabled us to produce a range of writing, including: detailed diary entries; descriptive wanted posters and our own fairy tale stories. The children’s writing was an absolute joy to read – they worked very hard – well done to each of them!

In Maths we have been looking at statistics and data ad how we can interpret information from a range of ways. We looked at pie charts, line graphs and bar charts and we even learned how to calculate the mean as an average! Pretty full on stuff!

We had a very interesting discussion in topic, looking at the differences between how schools were in the Victorian times and how they are now. This led to a debate on whether teachers should be strict like they were in that era – the feedback was surprising. We are going to use this to write a balanced argument next week.

In Science we have been looking at branching keys and how different animals are classified. The children really enjoyed doing this.

We had a visit to the book fare on Wednesday afternoon where the children could choose a book or two to read, it was a real treat to be able to do this and the children loved it.

Thank you for your support with Comic Relief – we had a wash of red in our class today!!

Once again, it has been another full on week here in year 6. Enjoy your weekend and we will see you on Monday.

See you then

Love Mrs Parry and Mrs Melling xx

Finally, have you say.  Each week you will have a chance to decide on which new song we will learn in next week's whole school assembly.  Click on the link below to take part in an online vote.
