Friday 3rd May

Good morning and welcome to the Year 5W blog for this week. What an exciting week it has been too!

Maths - This week the children have continued their work on fractions. They have also completed their end of unit assessment test.

English - The children have planned their own ancient Greek myth in readiness to write next week.

On Wednesday morning, the children performed their Spring Assembly. We were very proud of of all the Year 5 children. Thank you to all of you who were able to attend. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

In the afternoon, the children had their final session with HH Kids. This week they were learning ways to say no in an assertive way, instead of an aggressive way. They wrote scripts with partners and then performed them to the rest of the class. Here are some of their scripts and photos of them acting out their scripts...

On Thursday, all of Year 5 visited The Walker Gallery and the Liverpool World Museum. They had a fantastic time and several people remarked on their lovely manners and outstanding behaviour! Here are some comments from the children about their day...

My favourite part of the day was visiting the Space section. I saw a rocket engine, nebulas and the moon. It was fantastic!

I enjoyed most looking at all the stuffed animals. My favourite was seeing some wolves. I thought they would be quite little, but they were huge!

The children were shown how to 'read' a painting (by Charles le Brun) of Atalanta and Meleager. They learned the tragic story of Meleager's death, at the hands of his mother. Here is the painting they observed...

Here are some photos from our trip...

Our certificate winners this week are all of 5W for making all the staff proud. Year 5 have had a busy week, performing wonderfully in their Spring Assembly, followed by a trip to Liverpool yesterday. The children were engaged, enthusiastic and polite, with several art gallery staff members complimenting their manners. A fantastic day was had by all!      smileysmileysmiley
