Friday 5th January

Welcome back and Happy New Year! We hope you had a lovely Christmas and wish you all the best for 2018.

Congratulations to Kayla for receiving the achievement award for her space knowledge. When thinking about things an astronaut would need in space, she knew they would need oxygen to breathe.

English

This week we have been working on the Oliver Jeffers story, The Way Back Home. The children then had a go at retelling the story with their partner using finger puppets.

Maths

We have been working on 2d and 3d shape this week. Please help us with this at home! We need to be able to name triangles, circles, rectangles and squares (2d shapes), and cones, pyramids, cubes and cuboids (3d shapes). At the moment we're still getting a little mixed up with the shape names, (we get triangle and rectangles muddled up!). We have also been showing off our counting and number skills to check the progress we have made in Y1 so far.

Topic

We started our new topic, 'Space' and we reseached space travel using the internet. We found out Albert II was the first monkey in space, Laika the Russian dog was the first dog in space and he completed an orbit of the Earth, Yuri Gargarin was the first man to orbit the Earth and Neil Armstrong was the first man on the moon.

Have a lovely weekend, get lots of rest now we're back to early morning get ups!

Lots of Love,

Miss Rose and Mrs Duckworth
