Friday 7th January

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Welcome to our very first blog of 2022! It has been a busy foirst few days back here in Year 6F.

Maths - This week the children have begun investigating decimal numbers. They have been thinking about the value of each digit in a number with up to 3 decimal places. For example...

                                                        342.985

The 3 has a value of 3 hundreds (300)

The 4 has a value of 40  tens (40)

The 2 has a value of 2 ones (2)

The 9 has a value of 9 tenths (0.9)

The 8 has a value of 8 hundredths (0.08)

The 5 has a value of 5 thousandths (0.005)

English - In our reading lessons, the children have been answering questions based on the poem Snow White and the Seven Dwarves from Roald Dahl's Revolting Rhymes. Take a look at the animated version by clicking on this link...

In our writing lessons, the children have been thinking about the main characters from their Christmas holiday read, Oliver Twist. They have written sentences describing each of the characters as well as producing a wanted poster for Fagin. Together in class, we have read the novel and talked about it as we've gone along.

Topic - The children have begun their new topic for this half term, which has a history focus. It is called BATTLE OF BRITAIN and the children will be learning all about World War II. They began by learning some key facts -  when the war began , which countries were involved, who the leaders of Germany and the United Kingdom were, when the war ended and how long it lasted for. After that, they listened to an air raid siren followed by Neville Chamberlain given his speech on the wireless declaring war on Germany. The children then tried to imagine how they would feel if it had been them sat with their families as the announcement was made. They wrote a diary entry describing the evnts and their feelings.

Here are some examples of the children's work...

Here is our certificate winner for this week. He won for a beautiful piece of writing - a diary entry from the beginning of WWII!. Keep up the super work. Well done. smiley

All that remains to say is have a fabulous weekend. Here's hoping the weather doesn't become too cold! We will see you all again on Monday morning yes
