Friday 8th December

Good morning and welcome to this week's blog. It has been another very busy week in 5W!

Maths - The children have been investigating square numbers this week. A square number is the product of a number that has been multiplied by itself. For example...

                              2 x 2 = 4              therefore 4 is a square number.

                              3 x 3 = 9              therefore 9 is a square number

                              4 x 4 = 16            therefore 16 is a square number

We can prove this with arrays...

English - The children have been investigating the features of a newspaper report. They have been practising writing the FIVE Ws that are written in an introduction. Who? When? Where? Why? What? They have also been writing sentences containing adverbials of time and using relative clauses.

For example...

Adverbials of Time

Yesterday, Jack climbed a gigantic, thick beanstalk. (Written by Sam)

One afternoon, Little Red Riding Hood found a wolf in her grandma's bed! (Written by Jasmine)

Relative Clauses

Late last night, a young girl, who was called Red, was viciously attacked by a wolf. (Written by Kian)

Last month, a wolf, who was blowing down houses, was spotted chasing three little pigs near a town.

Our certificate winners this week are Misha and her grandparents. They won for recognising the importance of reading together every night at home. Misha has some lovely comments in her reading record that make Mrs Roberts smile every day! Year 5W send congratulations to them all! smileysmileysmiley Misha went on to win The trophy for the Upper Phase too! Well done. yesyesyes

That's all for this week. Fingers crossed the rain will stop for the weekend! See you again on Monday.
