Week Beginning 23rd January

Important Information- 

DITCH THE DUMMY!! Dummies can impact children and young peoples speech and language. Did you know 50% of children who use a dummy are referred to speech and language therapy. We have the dummy tree set up at nursery where the children can place their dummies and get a certificate when they no longer use it. We also have a posting station for teeted bottles and a basket for nappies if you are thinking of toilet training your child. If you need any information or support regarding any of these transitions speak to Traci or any member of the Sunflower team and we can support you the best we can👍

Some of our activities this week😊

We are starting to introduce the children to prepositions so they gain an understanding of the words “in” “on” “under” “on top”. Here are a few pictures so you can try this at home..

  • Dog on a log
  • Hat on a cat
  • Spoon on the moon
  • Wand in a pond
  • Car in a star
  • Frog on a dog

 

We have also been using a toy and bucket and hiding them “under” and “on top”.

Colour sorting and recognising colours 🎨

This week we have had a couple of trips to the park with small groups of children. They really enjoyed their time there and showed can do attitudes by climbing up the frame and using the steps to get up to the slide😊 don't worry if your child didn't get chance to go this week there will be plenty of opportunities.

Tuesday 23rd January😁

 

Today we had water play with the grabbing sharks and balls. We modelled use of the sharks and showed the children how to use the mechanism to open the sharks mouth in order to pick up the balls. This develops hand-eye coordination and fine motor skillssmiley We are still focusing our learning on colours, we are doing different activities around this and challenging the children to look around nursery and the outside environment for different colours to help them recognise them. 

We also played pop up dinosaur, this helps the children build relationships and friendships and also encourages turn taking and waiting. The children enjoyed waiting for the dinosaur to pop upsmiley

Wednesday 24th January😁

Today we focused our learning around different animals and the noises they make. We made a farm scenery and encouraged the children to make sounds in play and to use single words.

We made marks in paint using different objects, and also participated in "dough disco" with our playdough. This is a fun way to get children to copy actions through play. We used words like "pull, stretch, pat, poke". You can try this at home with the link below

Thursday 25th January😁

Today we did sensory trays that the children walked through exploring with their feet. This was based on the story the bear hunt which the children love. They are even starting to recite the words to the story and the song that we have been watching on YouTube. Please feel free to listen this at home with your childyes

Friday 26th January😁

The children are becoming really imaginative during play, they are starting to form friendship groups and play together. They have enjoyed being cats this week and have been crawling around the room together. They have also thoroughly enjoyed the dressing up clothes and being who they want to be including, Chase(paw patrol), Princesses and Superheroes.
