Week Beginning 6th February

REMINDER- Nursery breaks up for February half term after the session on Friday 16th February and will return on Tuesday 27th Februarysmiley

A few parents have mentioned they wanted advice and support around toilet training, I will post a link below that gives tips for this.

How to potty train - NHS (www.nhs.uk)

At nursery we have been introducing the potty to the children during nappy changing time and giving them the option to sit on it. The process of toilet training does need to be consistent between home and nursery which shows your child good parent/nursery partnership. This shows that we all work together to give your child the best support during this transitionyes If you are trying this with your child remember lots or positive praise around this and if you would like to use them maybe some stickers.

Being a parent is not always easy and we would like to support parents/carers the best we can. If you ever need any advice/suggestions or just a simple chat we are always here and you can talk to any member of the Sunflower Team. Below is a link that supports parental mental health and parent wellbeing.

The children are really beginning to expand their imaginations and thoroughly enjoy being in the roleplay area. You can get involved with this play at home by using cutlery, pots, pans, cups, and even tins of food. Below is a link if you would like to try this at home..

Please let us know if you try any of these games at home and how you and your child found thisyes

Some of our activities this week😁

This week for snacks we have had Chinese food to celebrate Chinese new year. The children really enjoyed trying the noodles, spring rolls and prawn crackers. We then did an activity were the children used chopsticks to try and scoop up some hula hoops. The children showed really good fine motor skills by doing this👍

Tuesday 6th February😁

Today we enjoyed water play with lemons and limes in. The children enjoyed trying to scoop them out and use their senses to smell and touch them.

We also talked about Chinese new year and did activities around this like painting dragons picturessmiley

We built big towers using foam bricks and encouraged the children to count as they placed a brick on their towers. They showed good can do attitudes and even managed to count to 10! We used words like "big, small, wobbly, tiny, huge" to describe the towers.

Wednesday 7th February😁

The children really enjoy being in the roleplay area, they are making really strong friendships and creating their own imaginative play. They use the play oven to cook the food, and feed the babies.

We did an activity focusing on colours called "rainbow bread". We used pipettes to squirt the different colours onto the bread, the children loved watching the colours splash onto the bread and could confidently identify the colours. They used their fine motor skills throughoutsmiley

We did another activity focusing on Chinese New Year we used different coloured rice and placed Chinese numbers in it. We talked about the different signs and encouraged the children to find a number when asked.

Thursday 8th February😁

Today we did small group time and enjoyed looking through our Sunflower Room picture book. We talked about who we could see and what was happening in the pictures. The children used good language and this is a good way to promote communication and language skills. You can try this at home by accessing the blog with your child and asking them "who is that friend" "what are they doing" etc.

The children enjoyed baking love heart biscuits for Valentines day With Amy. They talked about the different colours and sprinkles they was using. They also did a colour sorting activity in which they had to scoop out the correct coloured ball and put into the correct container.

Friday 9th February😁

Today we accessed lots of sensory play we filled flower pots with carrots, sweetcorn, peas and custard. The children was keen to play and explore in this and showed good control in filling and emptying the pots by using the spades and scoops.

They also did gluing and sticking pictures for Valentines day next weekheart
