week ending 10th November 2023

Welcome back to this weeks class blog. This week we have been learning all about the story Commotion in the Ocean. Let's take a little look at this weeks lovely learning.  As always, we set up the classroom ready to welcome the children in on Monday morning with lots of lovely activities to spark their curiosity and excitement. Here are just some of this weeks learning opportunities smiley

We started the week off with creating a fact file full of ideas, knowledge and information about the animals from the story. The children use using the Internet to find out more information and this is a great skill to help children understand that we can learn more through the use of books and online.

We have also been thinking about the colours and waves inline with our story. We explored colour mixing to create vertical stripes to use as a background to display all of our wonderful work. Take a look at the children developing their upper body strength and co-ordination moving up and down the large paper in fluid motions. Perfect!

We have also been developing our pencil control in both thr writing area and in the creative area. We have been practising our Read Write Inc letter formation skills, how to hold pens, pencils and wax pastels to create different lines and textures. Take a look at some of the wonderful work we have produced this week. Keep up the great work everyone yes

We have also been busy developing our fine motor control using scissors. We have taken lots of different sea creatures and cut them out carefully and placed them back together to make a whole part. This required us to use our critical thinking skills and a little like a jigsaw we have to use trial and error to get everything in the right place smiley

In Maths this week we have been thinking about characters from a story and using numbers up to 5. We have been exploring how to make sure that each character has the same number. Here we are using the characters from the 3 bears and giving them equal amounts smiley

We have also been thinking about Remembrance Day. We created poppies in the creative area to help us understand why we celebrate this day smiley

We love our sticky learning book. Each and every Friday we get the book out and add to it our new learning. Here are the last few weeks learning.

We explored the VR headsets this week. Oh my goodness what an amazing experience. We looked at some videos under the water. They were so real that it felt like we could almost touch them smiley

Next weeks text of the week is the lovely What the Ladybird heard at the Seaside. This is a lovely story to help develop recall and story telling and we can't wait to share it in class next week. Please see below for the link to listen to the story before Monday
