week ending 12th January

Happy New Year. We've had a great start to 2024. It was good to see so many smiles when the children came in on Tuesday and we've had a lovely week.

This half term our literacy is based on Traditional Tales. We've started this week with story of 'The Gingerbread Man'. We've completed a story map to think about the sequence of the story and which order we meet the characters, we've watched a video of someone making Gingerbread Man biscuits and we wrote out lists of the ingredients that went into the mixing bowl. In our innovation lesson we made up new gingerbread characters to go in the story. We've also had lots of 'Gingerbread Man' activities in our continuous provision.

In Maths we have been subitising, counting, matching quantities to numerals and playing counting games. We've also had lots of Gingerbread Man number activities in the Maths area.

We've loved the play dough this week, we have had gingerbread dough coloured play dough and have rolled and cut out different sided gingerbread men and decorated them with eyes and buttons. There were some fantastic gingerbread men that looked good enough to eat!!!

Next week we will be working with the traditional tale 'Jack and the Beanstalk'

On Wednesday and Friday mornings next week we will be holding our READING Stay and Play. Please check your WEDUC for an invitation to one of the sessions. The session will begin after you drop your child off in the morning, it is important you or a family member attends and I know the children are looking forward to having you in our classroom.

Have a lovely weekend.
