week ending 13th October 2023

Hello and welcome to this weeks Reception W class blog. What an amazing week this week! We can't wait to share with you our learning. So as you know this weeks text of the week is A New Home for a Pirate. Let's take a little look at this weeks learning.

As always we start off with some photographs of the lovely provision we have accessed this week. All of the wonderful learning opportunities we use independently help us to develop lots of different skills. Have a look at this weeks pirate and home themed activities smiley

You may have noticed on the pictures above our new Read Write Inc area in our classroom. The children have loved playing here this week. They have been practising their sounds, fred talking and how to segment and blend in order to read words. Now that you have your own packs of Read Write Inc cards we would love to see some of the activities you complete at home with your child. Send some pictures via Wedu smiley

So in keeping with o0ur text of the week we have been thinking about the things Jed wanted when he found his new house. Take a look at some lovely examples of writing. The children are really beginning to use all of the skills and knowledge from Read Write Inc sessions to help them hear the sounds in words yes

The children were very excited to welcome their parents to the Reading Stay and Play. We set up the classroom with lots of lovely examples of the different activities we incorporate into the day to help children develop a love of reading. Have a little look at these smiley

They were even more excited to show their grown ups around the classroom and talk to them about reading and books. We were so very happy to see so many faces and talk to you all about what reading looks like in Reception. Here are just a few pictures of us enjoying exploring our classroom together smiley

In Maths this week we have been exploring subitising - looking at the pattern of spots and trying to identify how many there are without the need to count them. We played a game this week called Kims Game - the grown up arranged the spots in a pattern and very quickly covered them up and the children had to say how many there were without counting. Tricky but super fun and another simple way of developing maths at home yes

In between all of the rain we have ventured outside and explored writing on a large scale - so very important for muscle development. Here we are exploring our giant chalk boards in the fresh air smiley

We have also been busy working on the notebooks and watching some of the Fred and Ellie RWI letter activities (I sent the links home via Weduc) in class. Take a look at us here using headphones and joining in with the session smiley

Next week we will be exploring Autumn as our theme for learning. We will be spending lots of time outside (weather allowing) looking at changing seasons and exploring what happens at this time of the year.

Here is a lovely link to an Autumn themed story called We are going on a Leaf Hut (little like going on a bear hunt)

Have a wonderful weekend
