Week ending 16th February

Welcome to the last blog of this half term. We did our last traditional tale this week, it was 'The Runaway Pancake'. We had lots of pancake fun this week especially with it being pancake day on Tuesday. We have sequenced events from the story, we have written shopping lists for the ingredients we need to make a pancake, we have thought about and written how we could change the story and what else the pancake could be. We also made our own pages from the story, we did our own illustrations and writing.

In Maths we have been looking at time. We timed ourselves to see how many claps we could do in 1 minute and how many jumps in 20 seconds. We practised time words, we made jam sandwiches and put pictures in order you make the sandwich. We used the words, first, next, then, after that, finally when talking about making the sandwiches.

We have also been learning about 3D shapes. We learned the names of common 3D shapes cube, cuboid, cylinder, sphere and cone. We have looked at and investigated the 2D shapes they are made up of. We have also built towers with the 3D shapes and talked about which shapes are better at the base of the tower and which is best at the top.

We've been very creative this week, we've been practising our cutting skills, we cut out a pancake then cut out toppings to go on our pancake. We have been investigating colour mixing, we mixed the primary colours (red, yellow and blue) to see what colours we could make. We have used the pastel crayons to produce beautiful rainbow pictures. We have looked at ourselves in the mirror and drawn fabulous self portraits. We have created the most beautiful daffodil pictures. We had a pot of daffodils on the table and lots of drawing materials and drew pictures of them.

We've had lots of pancake fun, we had all the ingredients, pans and plates to role play making pancakes. We have made lots of pancakes with the play dough and have some experts at tossing the pancakes.

As well as all the pancake fun, there have been lots of other activities to do in our class.

After the half term break we will be looking at books based on the topic of 'Growing'.

The first book we will be looking at is 'Oliver's Vegetables' by Vivian French.
