Hello and welcome back to this weeks class blog. We hope that you have had an amazing holiday and are ready and raring to go! Let's take a look at this weeks learning linked to Spinderella. This book is a lovely story about a spider - Spinderella - who wants to learn all about numbers!

We started the week off with a look at who Julia Donaldson is and some of the wonderful texts she has written. We used the Internet to find out the titles and looked in our own story cupboard to find how many of her books we had. We have over 43 Julia Donaldson books to share and use to help us with our learning. In fact Julia herself has written 184 books! Fabulous

We then discovered that in some of her books she has hidden a figure of a Gruffalo. If you have any of her books at home why not have a little look and see if you can find the hidden Gruffalo? Here we are looking at and sharing our favourites 

We have also been thinking about what the characters in the story might say. Every time Spinderella asked her family members how many spiders she had they would always reply - lots or loads. We have used some of our own ideas and added them to speech bubbles 

In Maths we have explored our text of the week. We have been matching numeral to quantity. We have been identifying the number and finding and adding pegs to match. Here we are with our efforts 

We have also enjoyed another lovely music session with Mrs Shirley. This week we recreated music about spiders and learned a new song from a different culture 

We have also written letters to Julia herself to tell her about our favourite stories. I am super impressed with the children's writing. They are writing with more independence and are using the techniques we encourage in Read Write Inc. Keep up the good work everyone and let's keep practising at home 

We also celebrated diversity through wearing odd socks! Thank you for all of your support. We had a great day and who knew just how much learning could come from socks? We talked and sorted our socks according to colour, shapes and patterns
