Week ending 19th January

Welcome to the blog after a very cold and wintery week. We've had lots of fun this week learning about 'Jack and the beanstalk'. In literacy we have looked at the order the story goes, thinking about what happens at the beginning, the middle and the end. We have used our imagination and thought about a different character that could be at the top of the beanstalk, we drew them and wrote about them. We also did 'Hot seating' where children pretended to be a character from the story and we had to think of questions to ask them.

We've also had lots of Jack and the Beanstalk activities to do around our classroom. We've made giants, painted beanstalks, looked at pictures of castles and drawn our own pictures and used magical collage materials to make magic beans. We've retold the story playing with characters and the toy castle.

We've also had lots of other fun activities to do, funky fingers, play dough, reading and lots more.

In Maths this week we have been looking at counting, matching numerals to amounts, ordering numbers and when we say numbers in order, the next number is '1 more' than the last. We have also been finding out about length, we read 'Superworm' by Julia Donaldson and then went on a hunt to find things that are longer than the worm and things that are shorter than the worm.

It's been a very cold, snowy and icy week. Unfortunately we couldn't play out because it was too slippy so we brought some snow in for the children to feel and play with and it was very exciting.

Next week we will be working with the text 'The enormous turnip' if you would like to listen to the story please click the link below.

Have a lovely weekend.
