week ending 19th May 2023

Hello and welcome to this weeks blog. As you know, this week we have been using the text A Squash and a Squeeze. It's been such a fun filled week full of laughter and learning smiley

Let's make a start and show you what we have been doing.

We started the week off with lots of lovely invitations to play all linked to the text of the week. We have explored, experienced and played and we have loved every minute!

We explored some of the newer Julia Donaldson texts with our friends. The language that was observed was amazing. The children knew where to find the authors name, where the title of the book was and where to find the blurb. Amazing. Here we are reading our new books smiley

We have also been thinking about the events in the story and the order they occurred. We have been drawing and labelling the animals in the story according to when they entered the house. Take a look at some of the work we have produced. We can really see the children using their Read Write Inc knowledge to support their writing.

We have also explored how we can be illustrators this week. Here we have made our own illustrations of the house when it really was a squash and a squeeze with all of the animals inside.

We have also thoroughly enjoyed this weeks outdoor learning session. We went outside and we created a giant number line, we explored using leaves, flowers and objects around us to make prints in salt dough and even had time to enjoy a story and snack out in the fresh air. Perfectyes

We have also been investing heavily this week in numbers and in particular, number bonds to both 5 and 10. We have been writing, looking for the patterns and trying to remember what two numbers added together make either 5 or 10. Great learning i am sure you will agree smiley

We have also been developing our observational drawing skills this week. We have been looking at different flowers, shapes, sizes, colours and trying hard to represent them. Take a look at these lovely examples. smiley

Our message centre continues to be a very popular place to come and learn. Such a simple idea but it really gets the children writing for a purpose. They love to go and check and see if anyone has replied to their message.

Our writing stay and play was so very well attended. Thank you so much for coming to stay and learn with us. The children appreciate you being there and so do the staff. Team Work! We had a lovely time hosting you and really hope you enjoyed what you saw. A brief look at this morning activities smiley

And finally, next week we will be learning using the text The Snail and the Whale. This is a lovely text and perfect for developing writing just like the snail does in the story. I have told the children that the author Julia Donaldson often hides pictures of the Gruffalo in her books - I will give you a clue where this one is hidden .... check out what the little boy is writing on the beach smiley

Have a great weekend
