week ending 25th January 2019

Hello and welcome back to this weeks blog. This week we have been using the text The 3 Billy Goats Gruff as our text of the week. As always, we start the week off by reading the text in different groups and we develop this further each day by discussing the beginning, middle and end of the text, creating alternate endings, highlighting rhyming words and describing characters. These skills that we develop on a daily basis are invaluable and help us to develop our love of reading.
We started the week off by ordering key events from the story. We talked about the sequence of the story, what happened first, what came next and what happened at the end. This helps us to use our story telling language in the right context.
Sadly due to the weather we were unable to make it onto the ALPS as we do every Tuesday morning. However, the weather didn't stop us going outside. We took sticks and wore waterproofs and explored the snow. We created patterns, held ice and created some experiments to see how quickly we could make the snow melt. Take a look at us in action
As one of our challenges in the classroom we created a raft to get the goats across the water safely.  We had to test, change and adapt our approach to solve problems. It was tricky and time consuming but oh my goodness what a lot of learning we got from this activity.
We have also been designing bridges and drawing the troll underneath them. Take a look at our bridge designs. How mean does the troll look?

Next week we will be using the text Little Red Riding Hood as the focus for our learning. Please remember that reading books are changed on a Monday and PE is every Friday. It is particularly important that the children have a kit in school as we are continuing to develop our bench work skills and safety of the children is very important.

Have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing you all again on Monday
