week ending 2nd February

Welcome to this weeks blog. We have had a lovely week learning about the story 'The 3 little pigs'. We have have had lots of literacy activities based on the story. We have written lists of materials and tools we would need to build a house. We have hot seated and thought of questions we could ask a character, we had some great questions and amazing answers that showed good listening and understanding. We made posters to describe a missing character from the story, we had to write words or sentences to describe them. We've loved this story and enjoyed joining in repeating a lot of the lines, for example, 'not by the hair on my chinny, chin, chin' and 'I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house down'.

In Maths we have been looking at the composition of numbers. We have used the rhyme '5 little men in a flying saucer' and looked at how many where in the flying saucer and how many had flown away, but there are always 5. We moved on and looked at making 6 and 7. We also had a look at height and remembered the story 'Jack and the beanstalk' and made beanstalk towers that were taller or shorter than the original one.

We've had lots of '3 little pigs' activities to choose from around our classroom. We've been building lots of houses. We've used charcoals, pastel crayons, collage and paint to make pictures from the story. We've had the characters to play with and have been telling the story. We've had lots of writing activities and had a construction site in the sand tray.

Today (Friday) we celebrated 'Number Day'. We had a day full of number activities. We made number crowns, Numberblock stick puppets, we matched numbers to objects, had had magnetic numbers to sort and order, we sang number rhymes and many more activities. We had a great day.

Next week we will be learning with the traditional story 'The Elves and the Shoemaker'.
