Week ending 3rd May 2024

Hello and welcome back to this weeks class blog. What a wonderful week we have had in our class learning all about the wonderful text Snail and the Whale. Let's take a little look through this weeks activities smiley

We started the week off by creating some observational drawings of snails. Who knew that a snail had a foot - not one like we have but this is one of the new and interesting facts we have learned. Take a look at our lovely sketches. Well done everyone yes

In the story the snail wrote a message on the rock to say please save the whale. We created our own science experiment to create boats made from different materials to test which one would be the safest to travel in to rescue the snail and the whale. Here we are testing and making our rescue boats smiley

We have also been re-creating the route the snail and whale made around the world. We have looked at cold countries, hot countries, countries with jungle and countries with ice bergs. Here we are creating our own maps and using a world map and globe to help us identify countries around the world smiley

We have also used the Internet to help us understand and to learn more about both snails and whales. We used some of our question words, formulated questions and then typed them into a search engine to find out the answers. We then created a snail fact file to share with our friends smiley

We also sorted and categorised animals as to whether they have legs or no legs or live in the sea or on land. Here we are sorting different sea creatures yes

We have also been sending postcards to either the snail or the whale to share with them what we have been doing with our free time. Here are some of our examples of our post cards smiley

We have also been exploring music. Look at the delight and excitement we get from using and exploring instruments. Lovely smiley

We have also been creating stem sentences using counters. We are encouraging the children to count how many, 5 is made up of 3 + 2 because 2 + 3 = 5. Try this at home! I'd love to see the children exploring numbers and recording

Thank you to everyone who came to our writing stay and play. We hope your enjoyed showing you around the classroom and talking to you about how we learn how to write smiley

Here's a round up of other things that have been going on in class this week. Look at the fabulous letter sounds! Amazing smiley

Next week we will be exploring the same text Snail and the Whale but with a focus on writing. We will be exploring how we can use this lovely text to develop our writing

Have a wonderful weekend
